How to become a psychology teacher
A psychology teacher is tasked with imparting knowledge and skills of studying human behavior to students. Psychology teachers teach students all the psychological principles and theories that are involved in understanding individuals/ groups and their behavior. Some of the areas taught by psychology teachers are psychological and personality developments in human beings, psychological and personality disorders, brain and biological functions among many others. The ultimate goal of studying psychology is to add value to the society by understanding members and the structures in the society.

What one requires to become a psychology teacher is very varied from one place to the other and it also matters at what level the person wants to teach psychology; is it high school, is it college or university level? Most states or countries list specific courses that are mandatory to have been studied by one before becoming a psychology teacher at certain level. But generally to be a psychology teacher, one must obtain relevant education, be tested and certified as a professional psychology teacher. An undergraduate degree from a credible university or college is desirable in this field. One does not have to major in psychology to be a teacher in it, but must have some credits of the degree in psychology.

Additionally, to be a psychology teacher, one must undertake an education program designed for teachers; this can be pursued as part of the undergraduate degree or after the undergraduate studies, A teacher education program is important as it equips one with the necessary skills to handle learners; for example learning lesson planning techniques, concepts of teaching, general classroom management, instruction methods, teaching students with special needs among other areas.

Once you have the relevant education to become a psychology teacher as discussed above, you can register and take for the psychology Praxis test. Once you pass the test, you should get in touch with the education department in your location and obtain a teacher certification application, fill it as required and take it back having attached your undergraduate degree papers and the results of the Praxis test.

One can start practicing on how to be a psychology teacher even while still undertaking their studies by volunteering or applying for internship in a school or college and teach psychology under the instruction of an experienced teacher. This experience will be of benefit to the teacher-to-be. Once one has obtained all that is required to become a psychology teacher, they may apply for jobs in the institutions of their interest and set their careers rolling. It is however important to mention that even a job, a psychology teacher may need to always read books a lot and do research to increase and update their knowledge in the area of teaching psychology.

Being a psychology teacher is a fulfilling job in itself as it provides the teacher with an opportunity to develop peoples (students’ minds) in the area of psychology and increase their knowledge; this knowledge will not just be temporary but for a lifetime. Many psychology teachers find this fact quite rewarding. As a psychology teacher one is also eligible for a good and steady paycheck. Teachers generally have reasonable working hours because learning mainly takes place during the day, in some cases in the evening but nevertheless, they are reasonable hours compared to other professions.
