I could never run out of reasons why I became a teacher. There are as very many reasons for being a teacher and each individual has their own reason(s) for being one.
I became a teacher because I know in teaching my job is secure and no matter where I went in the world, I knew I would get a job as a teacher. There are no regions or countries that do not have schools. Furthermore teachers are on high demand and even if something happened to my current job and I couldn’t continue in my school, I know I would get another job immediately.
I became a teacher because I wanted to make a difference in the society through my students. I feel accomplished when I know I have influenced a part of if not all of a person’s intellectual and logical development. I feel happy and excited when I know I have contributed to making a positive difference in one’s way of thinking and opened up their mind to new world. I love to teach the students new skills that can improve their way of doing things and make their lives better while at the same time prepare them for their career lives in future.
As a teacher, I am a very knowledgeable person. For me to teach, I have to do thorough research. I cannot just present anything to my students because many of them are really bright and they challenge me. To keep up with these challenges and instill confidence in them that I am their teacher and therefore I should know more, I read a lot. I read newspapers, books, journals and even the internet just to get my facts right.
I barely get stressed. Every day I will get a student who will cheer me up by asking a ridiculous question or say something silly in a nice way or just intentionally crack me up with a joke. I live for the days I will just be spending time in a classroom because it is there that I forget about my worries and just laugh away.
I look at myself and I cannot believe just how young I look even when really I am not that young. Teaching has kept me young. How? You ask, it is simple, I spend my days with young people, full of life, they are ever running up and down and so to keep up with them I find myself also running up and down, chasing after them. They love me as their teacher and they really keep me updated on what is happening in their world, what trends are on in fashion, music and many other areas. I am the one who updates my peers who are not teachers. They rely on me for information because they know with students I am well informed. I can talk to my children about anything because I fully understand their world, thanks to my students.
I get to spend my children’s holidays with them. Well, when schools close, teachers also stay at home; so when my children are home, I am also home and we have a good time together.
